I am happy that I came to join. I learned that God is the greatest creator of the earth and universe. I have learned to worship, to have fellowship, to play, to swim and to study. I believe more in God and I am more hardworking.

I have learned lots of things from 40 Days Of Purpose. One of them is fellowship and forgiving one another or just saying 'hi' to someone whom you haven’t seen for a long time. I also learned that little children like us can also be great help to God through spreading the Gospel with the wordless book that our teachers gave us.

Jeremy Lee, age 10
The most important lesson that I have learned is to know how much God loves me. I also learned to love the people surrounding me especially my brother Joshua and sister Elena. I used to make them angry but now I quarrel less with them. Now I stopped myself from saying not so nice things to them. I do all this because I want to please God.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Praise the Lord for the potential nine likely-to-be-formed cell groups after 40 DOP. I am very excited to guide these new groups to settle down and make disciples of them. I have spoken to Brothers James Wong, Dasline, Aaron Hii, Andy Chew, Charles Ling and Sisters Regina Tan and Siu Yew about the formation of new cell groups. Seven groups (including one group under me in Mandarin, Tuesday morning 8.30-10.00) will definitely be formed. They have confirmed their leadership and the material to be used.

The campaign committee has decided on Monday(11th August) that those groups which do not know what materials to use are recommended to follow through the useful additional study notes in the 40 DOP guidebook.

Please join me in the following prayer:

a. Praise and thank God for He is the one who causes the new cell leaders to emerge. They make themselves available to Jesus and commit to make disciples in cell groups.
b. Thank God for the new members (about 30) who join the cell groups; and there are a few who are not baptized have joined. I baptized one person.
c. Thank God for quite a few people who have signed up for the Cambodia mission trip
d. Pray that we are able to satisfy the needs of the new cell groups and the new cell group will reach out to more non-Christians and backslide Christians.
e. Pray that our campaign committee members will continue to function for another six months before we dissolve it.

Dear brothers and sisters,

Praise the Lord for He is the One who sustained our 40dop. I experienced unity of the whole church this time. With those 5 purposes driven home, now, we have a 'common language' to talk about and serve God. People who have read about the heart beat of God in those 5 purposes will understand better now when we do them. Now, they have a good understanding, the challenge next is to mobilize them to do them. The task of mobilizing them is easier now as they understand the significance of the 5 purposes.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Campaign team and the Sub-Committee members and Small Group leaders and all those who were involved in this campaign for doing a very good job. You all really have made a difference for Jesus. This is especially in terms of unity expressed; the number of non-Christians (at least 20) whom we have reached out; the nine cell groups which may be formed; two new youths who have joined i-Youth; Boys’ Brigade, Girls’ Brigade and Sunday School had successfully completed the 40 DOP; at least 4 backslide brothers and sisters I know have come back to church service; at least thirty five people who have been recruited to do different ministries and mission; and most important of all many lives who are transformed.

What is important next is the very challenging task of following up the new believers, backslide Christians and brothers and sisters who are joining the newly formed cell groups. We need to pray for the following items:

a. Thank God for the great opportunity to do 40 DOP. Whatever that has been achieved, let us give glory to Him.
b. Pray that God will raise at least 9 new cell leaders to do the job. Pray that they will have great sense of mission to make disciples.
c. Pray that present cell leaders and new cell leaders will find the time to meet to discuss and do follow up on the new members.
d. Pray that church leaders are able to guide the new members to grow to spiritual maturity by using the present material.

Celebration Sunday

Celebration Sunday, the grand finale of the 40 Days of Purpose programme was held during the morning service yesterday. The highlight of the event was when participants shared how their lives were being transformed during the 40 days. During the launch of the new song "Heart of a Servant", a number of participants came forward when Pastor Law called upon those who wished to re-dedicate their lives to Jesus. The presence of the Holy Spirit was felt during the call.

The prize for most impressive booth went to Sunday School and i-Youth Ministry came first in the category for recruiting the most new volunteers. There was also a special moment to appreciate the Hidden Heroes in our church - that honour went to Johnny and Felice Ling, whose family has served with much dedication and humility in GMC since 1982. A luncheon was held in the church compound after the service where families continued to celebrate and fellowship with one another. All glory and thanks to God!

Pray for God’s Great Commission to be proclaimed and fulfilled powerfully through the 40 Days of Purpose Campaign.
Pray for people to devote their lives to telling others across the street and around the world about the life-changing power of a relationship with Christ.
Pray that our church will be inspired to work hard to reach out to our community with the Good News.
Pray that the Missions Fair event will encourage everyone to become involved in outreach to our community and missions to the world.
Pray that people would surrender fully to doing their part to fulfill the Great Commission in their generation.

Sharing from the pulpit - EVANGELISM/MISSIONS

I never knew the importance and significance of MISSIONS until I participated in my church's local and overseas mission trips in 2004.

Five years ago when church leaders or pastors asked me to join a mission trip, I would give excuses such as I was very busy with my career; no time; didn’t have any talent to serve ; I had allergies; I suffered from land sickness; sleeping adaptability in a new place is a problem; frail health; not well-versed with the Bible etc.

The Great Commission of Jesus states:

“Go to the people of all nations and make them my disciples. Baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and teach them to do everything I have told you.” (Mathew 28: 19-20).

This Bible verse does not make sense to me. To me, evangelism is the sole duty or responsibility of the church pastors and missionaries because they are paid, or it only applies to those retired; those who are more holy; those who are rich enough not to work and so they have the time and they should do missions.

Besides I used my human mentality to think that I am an OKAY Christian. I observe the Ten Commandments; I attend church Sunday service: I also tithe and serve in a few ministries; I share my Christians faith with my family members and friends and relatives. I am satisfied that my family and friends are coming to Christ. God should be pleased with my life.

However God broke my low human mentality on the significance of Missions through sermons and Christian songs. Pastors often reminded the church Christians to join at least one mission trip before we go and see the Almighty God one day; and we should spend at least one year of our life-time to do mission locally or overseas.

My first church mission trip to Ulu Kapit was in 2004. Then it was followed by a Medical mission trip to Cambodia in 2005, Mukah mission trip in 2006, and Pa Adang mission trip in 2007. Those were the most meaningful spiritual breakthroughs that I have ever encountered and it became a turning point in my life.

Each mission trip that I joined, there are precious spiritual lessons that I learn. I learned to fast and pray, and intercede for the team members and ask God to unveil my spiritual blindness in His leading. From the local Ulu Kapit and Mukah mission trips, I experienced close fellowship, love, joy and unity among fellow Christians. The trips were fun, enjoyable and easy to conduct.

God knows our limitations and physical fitness, it is our heart that He is looking for to take interest and partnership in His work- to bring the Good News to the unbelievers as we are the messengers of God’s love and purposes to the world. Most importantly, missions can only be done during our time on earth.

Dear brothers and sisters,
Praise the Lord we have gone this far. You have only 7 chapters to go. I am sure as you look back, you really thank God you have participated in this campaign. The reason is simply because you have learned so much about God's divine purposes (Worship, Fellowship, Discipleship, Ministry). And now, the the fifth purpose - Evangelism (Missions).

I pray that as you read you sense the deepest heart beat of God for your life; Evangelism - that is simply to bring good news to those who do not know God yet.

As Pastor Rick Warren put it in a most simple manner, and he simply drives home the point only Christians (disciples) have the privilege to do it. I really pray that you will catch the vision to do mission.

You will realize you are created by God to do mission. The boundary to do it is to "the ends of the earth". Our church targeted and adopted Ang Kro Sang in Cambodia. We have formed one team to go there and there are still 5 vacancies left for another team. The date is 15-22 November, 2008. By all means, grasp the opportunity, go and make a difference for Jesus. My wife has signed up to go. At that time, I will be attending SCAC, we have arranged for my auntie to take of our 4 children. We do this by faith.

GMC vision is that by 2010, we will see 2 persons coming forward to be long term missionaries. We still have 30 month to pray and trust God.

Let us pay the price to do mission and only then it will make a difference for Jesus.

More than 50 people responded to the Ministry Fair last Sunday and this morning we witnessed the Missions Fair being successfully launched after church service. Keith Chin, the Missions leader in our church gave a convincing introduction before the Fair started. The three booths featuring Overseas Missions, Local Missions and Social Concerns did an excellent job in promoting and recruiting new volunteers.

I've been here in Miri for two years now. Sis Wendy first brought me to this church. Being a Christian for almost 15 years now, I've backsliding until God called me back early this year. Since I've been faithfully attending GMC and my life has been transformed. At that point of time, I was just attending church; listening and receiving God’s word. I had wanted to catch up with everything that I have missed out over the years. Many of the things I have learned about God have almost been forgotten. But I know that all I needed to do is just to hold on to His Word and Promise for me. One Sunday God spoke to me through Pastor Law’s sermon. God had wanted me to serve Him, to do His work. He wanted me to live my life in accordance to the faith I have received from Him. But I told God, ‘..I just came back to You, after all these years. I do not know anything and my knowledge is limited. How can I serve You? I am not ready yet.’ I doubted my ability and knowledge, in what I can do for Him. But God said to me, ‘Yes, this is true but You have nothing to offer to me, except yourself and You heart. That is all I want- a willing heart.’ That is only what God had wanted from me!

Then I took a bold step and talked to Pastor after his sermon. I told him, ‘Pastor Law, God has given me a gift and I want to serve Him. But I do not know anything. Can you help me?’

And since that day, since that decision, my life has changed. When I truly humble myself before God, accepting my inadequacy and offer Him my heart, can God work in me and use me. Not only have my faith been strengthen, I am more certain now of what God had intended for me, His will for my life. It is for this reason I am created by God- to bless others just as how He had blessed me. Later somehow God has open up rooms for me to serve Him. I started teaching in the Sunday school in the Tudan preaching centre. The fellowship and the encouragement I get from the people there is truly amazing and it strengthen my faith much more. During my first lesson, I was totally lost, being uncertain of what needs to be done, and then two little girls in the class came up to me. They called me,
"Teacher, let us help you. We want to serve here. Can you make us the class monitor and assistant monitor?"

I was shocked. I thank God for them. God had known that I will need help and He gave it to me. What was more amazing was; at the end of the class, the older girl quietly whisper to me, she said:
"Teacher, I am usually not as brave as this in school but only here in the church, because I want to help." At that point I can only thank God for the amazing thing He has done. Even till now, they are still offering me their help. Their passion and eagerness is truly an encouragement. I can only be humbled by God’s grace. I find that serving God is a two-way thing. We give and receive at the same time. Someone once said,
"Never mind the differences between people and the things you think you can or cannot do because at the end of the day, God sees our heart. He sees your heart."

Brothers and sisters, if today God has spoken to you and you are touched by this testimony, I urge you to take that bold step, like what I did. You will be amazed at how much God can work through you and how much changes you will see in your life and the life of others that you have touched.

Pray that every person involved in 40 Days of Purpose will be refreshed, renewed, and revitalized for the ministry to which God has called them.
Pray for the truth to be put into practice that “every ministry is important,” whether visible or behind the scenes.
Pray that people will discover and use their spiritual gifts and abilities for God’s eternal purposes.
Pray for each person to have a servant’s heart and serve wherever needed.
Pray that the Ministry Fair event will encourage everyone to become involved in ministry.
Pray for ministry leaders to inspire and equip new volunteers as they shepherd them.

Dear brothers and sisters,

Praise the Lord for He through the power of the Holy Spirit sustains us until the fifth week now. I believe you have learned very much from the book, the Purpose Driven Life. I believe you will feel that the more serious and committed you are in reading the book, the more you feel that you have no regret in signing up for this campaign.

I also believe you that you may constantly ask yourself this question: After you have done all the learning of the book, in the Sunday worship sermon and the small group discussion, how do you put into practice all the 5 purposes?

The fourth purpose tells you a very concrete answer. You are shaped by God to serve Him – ministry. You will find that Pastor Rick Warren try to give you a wide spectrum of the meaning of serving God. I pray that as you read the 7 chapters on ministry, you will be very convinced to sign up for at least one ministry in this church.

I pray that you will find the 7 chapters so practical that that is no excuse for you not to serve Him. I strongly believe that you will make a difference for Jesus as you make that commitment.

Do consider the calling of Jesus for you to serve Him. Jesus is calling you now, “My son/ daughter, I have sacrificed everything (my life) for you, now, I need you in this world to pass on my love to others whom I love, will you respond?”

Pastor Law always reminds me of sharing life transformation experience. In many ways I am like you, probably more so for me as a young Christian - still searching for the right answers to the many questions about life and living. The Purpose Driven Life and the 40DOP campaign have helped me in my spiritual journey, because they helped me understand the word of God better. The power is in the word of God.

I am convinced that to grow spiritually, we need to fight against three enemies, (i) self, (ii) the world, (iii) the devil. It is always easy to identify the last two, but not the first. Don’t fight the world nor the devil, if you have not dealt with yourself - the Bible taught us that we are sinful in nature. There is no short cut in spiritual growth – I need to crucify the desire of my flesh.

"Counting the cost” – this is what accountant like me does best. The "Cross", is the "cost", the "price we pay". I am convinced that I cannot be a disciple by simply attending the Disciple course, or doing theological study, or going to the church or cell group. No, I need to pay the price to be one. I need to count the cost.

The first area I need to count is where it hurts most, i.e. my wallet. Another area I need to count my cost is my career. Another area I need to count my cost is my time. I am very busy with my work on week days, and on weekend I look forward to a much needed rest. To run BB, I need to commit my time, to supervise a bunch of highly energetic boys. Without focusing on myself, I found that I have a little less greed, a little less pride, a little less jealousy, and a little less bitterness. And God replaces that with a bit more generosity, a bit more humility, and a bit more joy.

All I’ve said above are things and events I can decide on my own. Those are trivial things. There are times when God allows things in our life that we have no control of. Rick Warren said God uses every circumstance in our life to help us grow. That circumstance for me was when Siew Yew was sick from Dec last year to April this year. What did I learn during that difficult period? The first thing I learned is that I don’t have the gift of healing. But God gave me something else. He gave me His love, channelled through the many brothers and sisters who are seated here today. The visiting, the prayer, the encouragement, the helping out with the children, and even the rebuking. He also gave me humility, so that when people rebuked me I can take it. God also showed me how precious are His gifts to me in Siew Yew and my children. When Siew Yew was frail and sick, I thought she might not be with me much longer. This really put into context all the foolish arguments we had in the past, driven by self-centredness over petty issues. Now I treasure her very much. Now, every move she makes, every breath she takes, every slumber she takes – they are all God’s blessings. She struggled to do all those simple things in life when she was sick. So, husbands and wives, bear with one another. If things are not working out, make it work! Just over 4 years ago, our marriage was under threat. Now we have just celebrated our 15th anniversary. If there’s anything standing between you and you spouse, take it all to Jesus. Make it work, for you and your children.

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

We are now doing the third life purpose on earth for which God created us – be like Christ (Discipleship). I pray that you will find this purpose on earth tangible and practical, like the second purpose, fellowship.

After you understand your first purpose on earth is to worship God, I am sure you desire to make it happen. You can do it in fellowship. But as you do it, you will find that you need modeling. You need a good example to live a life of worship. And so the third purpose of life on earth answers the need. The best example of a life of worship is in the person of Christ. Therefore it is no surprise that you need to be like Christ on earth.

It is something that God, in the person of Christ, has put in my heart and mind for a long time. You know what, as I preach, teach, pray, visit and minister, there is always this deep longing in me that I need something tangible for me to model. Somebody has to show me to do it best. I always find that our Lord Jesus Christ is the best model and only person to show me the way. He is the best person to show me how to obey and worship God who is revealed in the Bible.

That explains why I get so personal with Jesus and I am so passionate with Him. I pray that you see what I see in Jesus. Follow Jesus, your life will not go wrong. Departing from Him, everything will go wrong!

This Week's Prayer Focus: DISCIPLESHIP

Pray that participants in the 40 Days of Purpose Campaign will have a renewed desire to pursue spiritual habits in their lives.
Pray that each person in our church would increase in spiritual maturity and godly character.
Pray for the personal desire of each person to grow in the knowledge of God through His word.
Pray that the 40 Days of Purpose Campaign will give a new understanding of suffering. Pray that trials will be viewed as opportunities God allows for our growth.
Pray for God to give insight to people as to how they can help others progress in their faith.
Thank God for all the people who have had a part in helping others grow closer to God.

Special Edition Bulletin for Ministry and Missions

The Special Edition Bulletin will be distributed during this weekend's morning and evening services to all GMC members and participants of the 40 DOP. The 8-page bulletin was specially printed in conjunction with the upcoming Ministry Fair (Jul 27) and Mission Fair (Aug 3).

The bulletin is released one week earlier before the Ministry Fair to enable all participants to read and explore where they could serve out their spiritual gifts and passion to the right ministry.

There will be ten booths showcasing their respective ministries during Jul 27 and three booths during Aug 3. Visitors who want to respond can always fill in the Response Cards readily available at both Fairs. Both fairs will be held at the church premises. All are most welcome!

I learned that we were made for relationship; to love God (worship) and to love other people (fellowship). The Christian life involves more than believing; it also involves belonging.

God created us and wants us to be part of His family.

1 Timothy 3: 14, 15, “…I am writing to you … so you will know how to live in the family of God. That family is the church of the living God…”

The five characteristics of developing and deepening relationship with others have impacted are :1 Authenticity - 2 Courtesy - 3 Mutuality - 4 Encouragement - I have a special child, Phoebe - a slow learner as compared to other child of her age. My wife and I were greatly comforted, encouraged by Pastor, brothers & sisters. Thereafter we are able to bless other parents with special children as well. I would like to thank Bro. James Wong for encouraging me to take up Discipleship I at the end of last year. We need a spiritual partner encouraging in his or her quiet time, faith and spiritual growth. I truly experienced the hospitality of two sisters. A few brothers and I were invited for regular meal with them. We’re relaxed and opened to share and encourage each other. 5 Unity - Roman 12: 16, “Live in harmony with each other. Do not be proud but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.” Now I am able to say “I am wrong”, “Forgive me” and “Sorry” without fear or hesitation. Relationships take time and sacrifice.

This Week’s Prayer Focus: FELLOWSHIP

Pray that the harvest will be plentiful – that those who are spiritually lost will come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
Pray that the 40 Days of Purpose Campaign will encourage many to become committed to our church family, to take the steps of membership, and to follow Christ’s example and be baptized.
Pray for unity and harmony in the new small groups and Sunday School classes.
Pray that those who visit our church will be warmly welcomed. Pray that they will return and get connected into long-lasting relationships.

Dear brothers, sisters and friends:

What is more precious than the salvation of your souls? Jesus is so concerned for your souls that He pays the price to save your souls. Your souls matter to Jesus so much so that He is willing to die to save. Can you know how much God loves you?

This is how I see myself and that is why I throw in everything (all my life) to love God. My response to God’s sacrificial love for me is to love Him back. I love God every day. In fact, literally, every day, I have joy in my heart and in my family just because we love Jesus every day.

I pray that in the coming week as you read (listen to the sermon and discuss in the Small Groups) the next 7 chapters on fellowship, on the need to belong to the family of God, you will find Jesus or you will sense the need to get more personal with Him. I pray that you will be like me as you love Jesus everyday - you will experience joy in your heart and family. I pray that whatever challenges you may be facing in life right now, as you know and love Jesus - you will get all the answers from Him.

All the more as you discover the importance of fellowship for God’s children, you will love to be in fellowship with one another. Then I pray that you will also get the support and encouragement you need so much to walk this journey of faith.

Things that deviate from their designed purpose – usually end up getting worn out.

In Psalms 119:28: The Bible says – “My soul is weary with sorrow...” Even the soul gets worn out.

The bottom line is that, I grew weary both mentally and spiritually with the wrong purpose. “The Purpose Drive Life” by Pastor Rick Warren and it pointed me in the right direction by highlighting the important portions of the Bible. We are all created for God’s pleasure. This revelation also helped me out of my weariness of the routine – to know that I have a purpose and direction for eternity! Worship no longer meant just the two short hours at church on Sundays, but it mean a change in lifestyle altogether.

Matthew 7:7 says “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”

God will give us the answer to the question on how to live our lives to worship Him if we would only ask Him. Nobody can tell us how to worship God – only He can. Every journey begins with a single step, and a step in the right direction

In GMC, we have many good examples to follow. Our Pastors, church leaders as well as many who have gone before us – whose lives were a great testimony and blessing. Living a life of Worship lifts our spirits and keeps us from feeling dry and weary. God in His mysterious ways fills us with His strength when we worship Him. It is by God’s strength and the perseverance He grants; that sustains the Pastors and all the church leaders

If you are feeling weary, I would like to invite you to seek God and ask “What can I do to bring pleasure to You?” Be honest about how you feel and what you want. If you don’t feel that your life is not pleasing worship to God – then ask God for a heart of worship! Seek God for a heart of worship! And you shall surely find what you are searching for.

For it is in this pursuit that we’ll find strength! God bless.

We are now experiencing an alarming rise in the price of petrol which drives our cars. I started to wonder: What drives my life? The Purpose Driven Life book is a very appropriate book for me to study at this time. I want to be charged up and make a difference in my life!

It is common for us to go for self-help books or surf the internet to find answers and knowledge. They may bring us success to a certain extent, but they are not fulfilling our life’s purpose. If we want to know our life’s purpose, the easiest way is to ask God, the creator. It all starts with God. Our time on earth and our energy, intelligence, opportunities, relationships and resources are all gifts from God that He has entrusted to our care and management.

The Bible says:“Those who are trusted with something valuable must show they are worthy of that trust.” (1 Cor 4:2).

We should also be mindful that if we are not using what God has given us, He can take it away from us. I was Sunday School Praise and Worship coordinator. I didn’t know music - so I learned the songs from tapes. Regrettably for many years down the road, I did not use the vocal talent God had given me. I won’t let such opportunity escape from me now I have participated in the 40 DOP!

Let us all embark on this 40 Days Of Purpose with great expectation and bring all glory to God in our everyday life.

Dear brothers and sisters of GMC and especially those of you who have signed up for the 40 DOP,

Praise the Lord, we are now in the second week of the campaign. I can see that we are all empowered by the Holy Spirit to begin over 20 Small Groups. I also see that this is something like what the early apostles experienced after they were filled by the Holy Spirit - they met at homes and devoted themselves to fellowship, prayers and studying the Word of God. This is what GMC should experience all these years. We need to pray that most of these groups will continue to be on fire and continue to make disciples after the 40 days.

Praise the Lord, He empowers me to lead 4 groups and my wife, Julia leads a Mandarin-speaking group. I have the joy and excitement of making members to be disciples of Jesus. My prayer for them is that at the end of the day, all of them will find the life purposes for which God created them.

I pray that as you all have tested the powerful impact of the first seven chapters of “What On Earth Am I Here For?”, you are able to see the eagerness in yourself to continue to head on for the next 7 chapters on worship. I pray my sermon on Sunday has given you a very clear of what you are going to expect in the next 7 days. Do not forget to call one another to remind yourself and others to read a chapter a day. Your personal accountability will really make the 40 DOP much more exciting, meaningful, fulfilling and encouraging. At the end of the day, you will really appreciate one another for keeping accompanied in reading the book. We all need that as we so busy that we tend to forget.

I also pray as we meet in Small Groups, we take it as this is divine appointment. Everybody will treasure the fellowship and we are sensitive towards the needs of one another. We will only highlight and His gospel and nothing else. I pray for all the Small Group leaders that you all will have the wisdom to deal with all the challenges and needs arise.

Following last Sunday's opening sermon "What On Earth Am I Here For?" by our Pastor and Campaign Spiritual Leader Rev Law Hui Seng, the first Small Group commenced on Tuesday morning at Piasau Lorong 8. Conducted in Mandarin, the home study was lead by Rev Law. Responding to special requests, we have two Groups conducting lessons in Mandarin; the rest are in English.
The Small Groups are hosted in various zones throughout Miri and held during different days and time to suit the convenience of the participants. Last night (Thursday) there was a session at Pujut 5. The group was lead by two young and capable adults who are deeply anchored in Christ; Glynis and Yau Ming. Why two leaders? For we know,

"Two are better off than one, because together they can work more effectively. If one of them falls down, the other can help him up... Two people can resist an attack that would defeat one person alone. A rope made of three cords is hard to break." - Ecclesiastes 4:9 (TEV)

This group of friends means a lot to us because five of them are new to our church and they are teenagers and Curtin undergraduates. Praise the Lord for bringing them to our lives!

Dear faithful participants of 40 DOP of GMC: Starting today you are embarking on a journey of faith that will carry you far and sustain your personal relationship with God in your discipleship. This journey will only become impactful and life transforming if you pay the price. We all know that things you pay a high price, you will treasure it more. This is also true when it comes to spiritual things. The price you need to pay is to spend at least 15 minutes a day to read a chapter of the Purpose Driven Life. Then you need to attend a weekly one and half hour of small group meeting.This is where you can share your life experience based on the word of God. Then you come for the Sunday service (about one and half hours), where you listen to the next purpose for your life. The 3 activities are most spiritual in nature. You must not miss any one of it. They are designed to reinforce one another and help you to establish a personal relationship with God. All the blessings of life which God desires to give you will flow from that relationship. I pray that at the end of the day, all of you will be able to say indeed I have seen God in a personal manner and I desire to move on in a deeper relationship with God. I also pray that you are serious, humble and focus on Jesus throughout this campaign.

Pray that the first message, “What on Earth Am I Here For?” will launch life-changing spiritual journeys.
Pray that our pastor will communicate a compelling vision for small group/ Sunday School participation. Pray that this will help people take a risk and join a group for the 40 Days of Purpose Campaign.
Pray that Host Home strategy will be an effective method of bringing people together into new small groups or Sunday School classes and that God will effectively prepare the new leaders or hosts for these groups.

Simulcast Night and Sunday Service

After weeks of anticipation, the kickoff to the 40 DOP finally happened on last Saturday night! All of us wasted a good worry during the few days before the Simulcast when the Sanctuary was still undergoing renovations. Thank and praise God everything went smoothly as planned!

As expected, Pastor Rick Warren's video sermon impacted many who attended. The next day our Spiritual Leader Rev Law Hui Seng preached the first of the series of the 40 DOP sermons, "What On Earth Am I Here For?" We thank God for Rev Law's message was well-received.

For the first time in the history of GMC, we are so united to do 40 DOP, we pray that your Word in the Purpose Driven Life will transform your children’s lives to make disciples of all those who are hurt and lost and without hope.

I pray that our effort in GMC will help our community to be better. It is YOU who is going to do it. We pray that all of us will really see the need to humble ourselves and depend on YOU to transform our lives to be more like YOU.

We need YOU to come in and touch our lives so that we see our sinfulness and how much we need your help.

Then we pray we can bring your Word in the Purpose Driven Life book beyond ourselves to the people in Miri.

We pray that as we are launching the 40 DOP this Saturday night, Rick Warren in his video will help us to see why we need to read the book urgently and seriously.

Pray for a critical communication event of the Campaign - the Simulcast on 28.06.08.
Pray for all the preparations and logistics for the Simulcast, especially for the associated technical support.

Heavenly Father, the way YOU work is not according to my way, or the way of the church, or the way of the campaign committee. When I see the number of our participants hit 282 (out of 450 whom we targeted) so far, I see your children and disciples are very touched by YOU. I want to praise YOU and thank YOU for YOU have answered our prayers of the purging fire of the Holy Spirit coming upon us to get us to move beyond ourselves to others. Thank YOU for the work of YOUR Spirit.

I pray that YOUR purging fire of the Holy Spirit will continue to propel the whole church to make disciples of all nations by recruiting more and more children of YOURS to come to know YOU and be saved and become YOUR disciples in the years ahead.

I see that YOU have given us all these new people for us to make them disciples of yours. I pray YOUR disciples who have invited and recruited them, they will put in all the prayers and encouragements to help them to know YOU personally. I pray that we all will make them feel loved. They will sense YOUR presence, glory and love through our caring actions. Touring Party or Official Delegate?

Last year the Girls’ Brigade

Malaysia

sent our three official delegates to the International Conference Girls' Brigade in Belfast, Northern Ireland. There were three other sisters who also joined the conference. In one of the Exco meetings, the three were referred as “touring party”. One of the sisters strongly objected, “We are participating in all the programmes and meetings of the official delegates, we are not touring party.”

How do we fit in this world? How do we fit in the Church? How are we connected? Where are our places? Where are our people? What are our activities?

The fact is sometimes we act like a member of the touring party. We come and see. We are not engaged. We are not involved. We watch and seek our own pleasure. When we have enough of the place, we leave. We are never meant to serve. We are never meant to stay.

Official delegates are stewards. The word for steward is oikonomos, meaning “housekeeper”. When we are on an airplane we find a stewardess or a steward who serves coffee or tea and food at the proper time. They have been entrusted with certain valuable commodities which they are responsible for dispensing. That is what a steward is.

Yes, life is short and unpredictable. We are only pilgrims and sojourners. This earth is not our ultimate home. But it is our home now. While we are here, we are charged with the responsibility of being stewards. Stewards are not owners. Stewards are agents of the Owner, charged by the Owner with responsibility to tend to the Owner’s interests.

Being a steward means that we belong here. We did not just happen to pass by. We were sent to this place on purpose, and we have our work to do.

So if we quit acting like tourists and start working faithfully with duties charged on us like stewards, we just might discover that we have found the place where we belong.

Have we found a place of stewardship in the 40 Days of Purpose Campaign as official delegates? Or we just want to be a member of the touring party?

If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen. (1 Peter 4:10b)

Renew my life, Lord Jesus

"Renew my life Lord Jesus, I never want to be the same ... change this heart inside of me."

This is a meaningful and beautiful song sung by the congregation during the launching of 40 DOP in our church. Indeed God desires our lives and our hearts to be renewed and transformed so that His Will would be fulfilled in us.

Romans 12:2 says, “Let God transform you inwardly by a complete change of mind. Then you will be able to know the Will of God – what is good and pleasing to Him and is perfect”. I believe through the work of the Holy Spirit many lives will be renewed and transformed in this 40 DOP. Let us get out of our little world as what Sis Winnie Tie has shared to reach out to the lost souls (can be family members, relatives, friends, colleagues) who may have been searching for the purpose and meaning in their lives. God is just waiting for us to open our mouths and ask, and He will do the rest!

I had a breakthrough myself by visiting a family who has not been coming to church for a long time. I invited them to join the 40 DOP. He shared that his wife is a young Christian and she is still searching while he is struggling to build her and their children up spiritually. We believe that this 40 DOP will meet his needs and we prayed that they will make a step forward to sign up for this 40 DOP.

Pray for each person involved in the leadership and inner workings of the 40 Days of Purpose Campaign to rely on God’s sufficiency and strength.
Pray for unity, harmony, and lasting friendships to develop among team members.
Pray for the physical health and stamina of all pastors, staff, and lay leaders on the Campaign Team.

Invite at least one friend

“What on earth am I here for?” is a simple question yet with profound implications that warrant us to consider seriously. It is not by chance that we exist on this earth. God has a purpose for each and every one of us. In Jeremiah chapter 29 verse 11, God said to His people, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” And with his plan God also equips us with the spiritual gifts or talents to accomplish it. What is at stake is do I fully comprehend what is the purpose God has for me on this earth and is my life aligned with God’s purpose? We may be living an unfulfilled or a sub-optimal life if we miss the purpose on this earth. What about our friends, relatives and family members? By God’s grace GMC is organizing the 40 Days Purpose Driven Life. I pray that that through this program all GMC members and our friends will come to know and affirm the purpose God has designed for us on this world so that we will be able to live a God- blessed abundant life and that we will be able to participate in the ministries according to our gifts. Let’s take this opportunity to invite at least one friend to join this campaign.

All about His Glory

I have been praying with my husband two times a week early in the morning at 5. We use Psalm to meditate and pray. One morning, we were reading and praying with Psalm 96, a massive truth hit home as if I have never known before. I noticed the words “all the earth”, “among the nations”, “above all gods”, “most worthy of praise”, “families of nations”, “ the heavens”. For the psalmist, his ultimate concern was God’s glory and God’s name to be praised among the nations, above the heavens and throughout all the earth. In comparison, my concerns were circled around my little world, my little ministry, and my little worries. While the psalmist’s desire was to see God’s glory above all the nations, I was wondering what meat to defrost for lunch.

Nothing has changed. Life still goes on. But I began to see things in a different perspective. My horizon was broadened right then. It is nothing about me or any other thing. It is all about the glory of God. His name is to be exalted high above. From the rising of the sun to the setting of the same, His name is to be praised.

As we launched into the 40 Days of Purpose Campaign, we can easily fall into the traps of worrying about our little world, our little number, our little group, even our little DVD player or living room. But let us see the whole thing in a broader picture. It is all about Jesus, nothing about us. “Declares his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples.” (Psalm 96:3)

Heavenly Father, we are not doing the 40 DOP for our sake. We desire it to do it for your glory and your sake. It is really because of YOU we are doing it. This time, our faith in YOU is really tested. In this campaign, we can see who your disciples are willing to pay a price and who are not. I pray that your children see the golden opportunity to grasp to make a difference for Christ. Even we need YOU to fill us with the fire of the Holy Spirit. YOU know that we are all so forgetful, fearful of rejection, shy and give a lot of reasons not to do it. YOU can reverse all these. YOU can show us the names to recruit. I pray that you give all your children in GMC the joy to see other people coming to know Jesus and be saved. I pray that each of your children who have listened to the sermon yesterday will decide to recruit at least one person in these 3 weeks left to the kickoff simulcast.

Small Group Leaders Training

The first Small Groups Leaders training was conducted by William Ting yesterday morning.

Sixteen volunteers who signed up as Small Group Leaders attended the session. There will be another session next Saturday night (June 14, 7:00pm - 9:30pm) to train those who have missed the first session.

All basics in leading a 40 DOP Small Group including the trial run of the first chapter "What On Earth Am I Here For?" were fully covered by William, who is also the Cell Group Coordinator for our church. We are eagerly looking to the start of the 40DOP!

You never know how God can work through you if you never make the first step to share the 40 DOP with friends, family members and colleagues.

As I begin to share with colleagues on the 40 DOP campaign that our church is doing, I realise that there are many people out there waiting for us to bring this good news to them. God has prepared the ground for us. The harvest is plentiful, where are the workers? Are you one of those that is still waiting and not willing to open up and share the 40 DOP good news?

If you are, let me encourage you with the following: I was sharing with one of my colleagues on GMC 40 DOP campaign. Immediately she told me she has been seeking for an answer on the purpose of life on this earth. Life seems to be meaningless at times. She agreed to sign up. Don't you think it is God's timing? Two of my colleagues shared with me that they have been trying to read the Purpose Driven Life book for a few years and never manage to complete it. I invited them to sign up and join the study with me. One of them agreed immediately. During the sharing, I found that if we were to take a bold step forward for Christ, He will show the way. The question is why some of us are not doing it. I do realise that I have to overcome two persons in order to have a breakthrough. That is ME and MYSELF. I am so self centered and very concerned about how people will think of me if I share with them about the 40 DOP, I would feel very bad or "no face" if people turn me down. All sorts of thoughts run through my mind. But then, who am I? I am a child and also a servant of God. When I focus on God, all the thoughts about ME and MYSELF are gone. JUST do it for Christ.

Pray that God will provide the energy, time and endurance for all tasks to be done this week in preparation for the 40 Days of Purpose Campaign.
Pray that God will provide the needed volunteers to make each Campaign event successful.
Pray that God will provide our church with all of the material resources needed to facilitate this Campaign.

Praise the Lord we had about 30 Small Group leaders attending the pot bless dinner on 29th May. There will be a very important training for all the Small Group leaders on the 7th and 14th June. I pray that all Small Group leaders will give 100% effort to turn up in full force.

Small Group leaders, praise the Lord for your response to the call of facilitating. As you take this commitment, your faith will be stretched because you are literally making disciples in the Small Groups. You will be doing the heart desire of Jesus. The secret of your success as Small Group leaders will be your prayers for the participants, your trust in Jesus and your thorough preparation. The church and myself will make it a point to pray for you all.

To the rest of the participants and friends out there, the whole church is praying for you to participate in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Allow your life to be transformed for a better future! I urge you and pray that you will spread the news around and make a difference for Jesus.

On the 31^st May, four of the 40 DOP campaign committee members and myself met up with the Borneo Post reporter Mr Anthony at Mei Ann Methodist Church. We shared with him how the 40 DOP would bless Miri community. Thanks to The Borneo Post, the press release was published yesterday. Let us pray that at least 20 persons from the public will respond.

I have prepared the first and second sermons Why On Earth Am I Here For? and Worship: You Were Planned for God's Pleasure. Praise the Lord, even before I read the Purpose Driven Life book a few years ago, the 5 purposes Rick Warren advocated were already anchored in my life. The fact is anyone who takes the Bible seriously and will really ask the purpose of one’s life on earth.

I can't wait to preach the first sermon. I can foresee that my congregation and all participants will experience a paradigm shift as they listen to the word of God. If you have not signed up, I pray that you will. Give yourself a chance, please.

Enhancements to our church acoustics is commencing tomorrow. This is how the sanctuary looked like after this morning's housekeeping. So bare! We moved and kept most of the furniture and miscellaneous items so that the contractors will have an easier access for the next two weeks.

After the enhancements, we will be even more ready for the launch of the 40 Days of Purpose!

The official 40 DOP press release to the Miri media was done jointly by the five organizing Methodist churches Mei Ann, Yi En, Hwei En, Life and Grace.

District Superintendent Rev Liik Tung Yeu was the key spokeman yesterday morning at Mei Ann Church conference room. Representing GMC were Rev Law Hui Seng, Lay Leader Ting Kong Yu, Vivien, William and myself.

With the press release, we pray our Miri community will respond favourably to the 40 DOP as we are now only 27 days away to the kickoff Simulcast with Rick Warren. We thank and praise God for our church members who are now working very hard to invite more people.

Small Group Leaders connect

Last Thursday the Small Group leaders met up for the first time since the launch of the 40DOP campaign for pot bless and fellowship.

It was followed by an orientation on leadership and hosting by Yung Teck Chung and William Ting, done with the intention to prepare the leaders on the forthcoming training in June.

The blessed evening ended with the allotment of four groups, discussion and prayer.

We have now reached the half-way point to the launching of our campaign! Thank and praise God that we have 185 participants who signed up during the past four weeks. We are going to be blessed with more in the month of June through His provision!

As we approach the commencement of the 40DOP, let us examine some 'windows' during this period that may need to be 'opened' and prayed for.

Let's pray for T.O.P!

1/ The Window of Time - that we are able to keep to the 40 days schedule faithfully. 2/ The Window of Opportunity - that we will step up our efforts both in action and faith to invite more relatives, friends, colleagues, classmates and neighbours. That we will take the opportunity to lead or host Small Groups in our homes. 3/ The Window of Passion - that our hearts are more passionate in sharing our purpose of the campaign.

In Colossians 4:5, Paul admonishes us to "Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity." The word opportunity that Paul uses comes to us from the word kairos. The Greeks used kairos to describe a decisive moment, a crisis, or a crossroad. It's what we would call a defining moment. Does God want us to prepare a defining moment in our life and in the lives of whom we care and love?

If we don't invite now, we will never know that the people around us may be looking for Jesus. We may never know that they may be longing for our Saviour in their hearts.

We could be their link to realize their defining moment in their lives! Carp diem!

Praise the Lord for the additional sign-up of 43 participants over the weekend, bringing the present total to 185!

I see our congregation sees the need for the Purpose Driven Life book. I also see that there are a few members trying to reach out and introduce the 40DOP and the Purpose Driven Life book to their friends and even to pre-Christians. I pray that more brothers and sisters would overcome the fear of rejection, shyness, lack of compassion for the lost, deception by the devil that people can still go to heaven without Christ, insensitive to the problems faced by those who are close to us, etc. I pray that we all grab the opportunity to do the PDL book together with our friends and walk through this powerful 40 DOP that God ordains. Remember it is hard to find another chance that we do the whole evangelism together with so much prayer, encouragement, support, money and the spiritual environmental. You must grab the chance and later on as you look back, you will thank God that you have done it and you have invited 5 persons and they come to know Jesus and become His disciples. And you are going to spend the eternity with them in heaven!

Sunday School 40DOP Kick off

This morning was special for the Sunday School. The children were asked to invite their friends for a party! The idea is to introduce them to the 40DOP that we are running for the children. In fact we welcome any children to join our 40DOP. This is to enable the children to understand their life purposes from young. Therefore, even if you don't worship in GMC or not even a Christian, we also welcome you. Just contact us!

Heavenly Father, I know that you are in control of the 40 DOP.
I do not need to worry about the figures and the targeted goals.
But as human beings and your children in GMC, we need them to work on and pray.
I know that at the end of the day what is important is not a figure to achieve.
The faith of our church in you is really tested this time.
Can we trust you to reach out to the lost and the backsliders?
How many of your children are willing to take action and exercise their faith to invite and reach out to those who are in troubles?
Heavenly Father, we pray for your Spirit to fill us and empower us to exercise our "faith like potatoes."
The kind of faith like that of Brother Angus Buchan to invest all his money to plant potatoes and take risk so that we have to trust you for a good harvest of souls for your kingdom.
We pray that GMC members will take the risk to be rejected by people when inviting them.
Give us a strong burden to see that people around us, no matter what race we are from, we need God, the word of truth very badly.
In the most powerful name of Jesus Christ, I pray, Amen.

Launching of the 40DOP bunting #1

The first of the series 40DOP bunting was launched with a roll-call and song this morning during church service!

40DOP Weekend Services Coordinator Tan Kok Chui first explained the symbolism of the bunting and how important it was that the church congregation supported the campaign whole-heartedly in unity.

Pastor Connie Yong and Campaign Director Paul Wong were invited to unveil the bunting together with the 40DOP team and LCEC members.

The simple yet uplifting ceremony was followed by the song "Renew my life". It was one of those beautiful moments one would remember and treasure it for the rest of one's life. Witness it here.

Praise the Lord by 11th May, we have 133 people already signed as participants. I am praying for another 317 participants!

Every morning, I wake up, the first thing that comes to my mind is to pray for the campaign committee and it is followed by a list of names whom I have targetted to approach. Also since last Tuesday morning, sister Sally and the prayer team has begun praying for me as the Campaign Leader and Pastor Connie. I also request for them to pray for the list of people whom I plan to invite. Let us pray for positive response.

In the midst of this campaign and movement, I see that we learn to accept one another's view especially in the committee meeting. I can see that we are all doing it for Jesus. I can see that we are getting more and more united.

I see that at the end of the day, the greater challenge of this movement is to mobilize our church members to recruit others especially the backsliders and those who do not know God yet. If you know of a person who is struggling in life, this is the one whom you must pray and invite. He may be more receptive to your invitation.

Michael Lee, the Chairman of our church and also the Assistant Campaign Director for the 40 DOP gave a briefing to the morning and evening service congregation yesterday.

He explained the contents of the Purpose Driven Life book and gave pointers on how the Small Groups home study would be conducted according to the simple instructions through video and facilitated by a leader.

22 more people signed up yesterday taking the total number of participants to 133. The momentum is certainly moving in the right direction, praise and thank God!

God's Protection

Fruit Grows From Spiritual Seeds by Rick Warren
“I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.” John 12:24 (NIV)

When you think about your walk with Jesus, some days you may wonder, “Why is this so hard? I’m still struggling with so many problems. When will I finally get it right?”

In my journey as a pastor, I’ve learned that spiritual growth is often like the growth we see in nature – the best fruit ripens slowly. In John 12:24, Jesus says, “I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.” (NIV)

The problem is we tend to get impatient, so we dig up the seed to check the progress of its growth, and that slows down our growth! If you’re not seeing as much fruit as you’d like, don’t despair. Growth takes time.

In the meantime, try these steps for spiritual growth:

Nurture growth with God’s Word – I know you’re already doing this, but when you read the promises of God, again and again, it helps you remember that he is at work, even when you can’t see him at work: “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see” (Hebrews 11:1 NIV).

Cooperate with God as he prunes – Praise God for the work he’s doing in your life, remembering “he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more” (John 15:2 NLT).

Pray through the “fruit list” – Pray through the “fruit list” (the fruit of the Spirit) from Galatians 5:22-23. The NIV Bible lists the fruit as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Ask God to help you grow this fruit in your life.

Now I do it for Jesus!

Now praise the Lord we have 111 participants out of 450 we targeted - including 18 hosts out of the 50 targeted; 23 Small Group leaders out of 50 targeted.

The reason we targeted for 450 is because we pray that at the end of the day our congregation size will double.

I pray and we all pray that at the end of the day Jesus disciples in GMC will have to open the third service in the morning!

Though the registrations are coming slow, I believe that as we pray and trust God every week and with all the effort of our faithful committee, sub-committee members and the whole congregation of 230 persons, we can hit the target of 450.

I am personally so excited about this 40 DOP movement as it is going to continue after that.

I pray everyday for the campaign committee and praying for the targets whom I can reach out.

I have personally talked to about 20 persons on Sundays, over the phone, at the offices of pre-believers and neighbours. So far, 1 has registered.

I am so excited about the 40 DOP that I have decided to host and lead in our church premises when the campaign starts:

SCHEDULE
Tue - 8:30 am to 10:00 am (in Mandarin, two agreed to join already)
Wed - 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm (in English)
Fri - 8:30 am to 10:00 am (in English)
Sat - 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm (in English)
Sun - 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm (in English)

I pray that as I recruit and as others also help me, God will grant me at least ten in each group.

You may be wondering why I am so aggressive and why I am so willing to pay the price to do it.

In my preaching in the past years, I have been emphasizing very much on reaching out to the lost and the backsliders and I feel like God is giving me the opportunity to do something for them with the whole congregation doing it in unity.

I feel that if I do not grasp this opportunity, later on I may live to regret.

Since everybody is doing it and we put in so much prayer, energy, time, money and all the possible human resources, it will be a waste of time if I do not give my best.

Another burning desire and reason for me is this is my opportunity to make disciples of all in my groups.

I will play the role of helping them to discover God's puirposes for their lives on earth.

Can you imagine after they go through the book, Purpose Driven Life, how their lives will be charged up and driven by God and head for eternity?

40 DOP updates

The momentum for the 40 DOP campaign has begun!

Registration began on April 28 and 111 participants who signed up were mostly our own church members. Have you signed up yet? If you have not done so, please do so as soon as possible.

From this Sunday onwards you will be able to check the Participants' and Small Group listings/locations at the information counter outside the entrance of the sanctuary after every weekend service (morning and evening). Please check with the church office on weekdays.

We will do our best to meet to your preference on day, time and location of Small Groups. Please review the listing to check your name, the name(s) of your invited guests, the suitability of the time and place of the small group gathering, and if we have noted your payment for registration.

The registration fee is RM22.00 - inclusive of the Purpose Driven Life book, a workbook and a key chain. If you already have the PDL book, you can opt to purchase the workbook at RM7.00 which comes along with a complimentary key chain.

Do feedback to the registration personnel on duty for any changes or correction on your participation.

The 2nd batch of 40 DOP Polo shirts (Polymesh) is ready for collection. Those who have ordered can collect and pay at the information counter. Those who haven't ordered can still place their order. We urge you to wear the 40 DOP shirt as often as you can to promote the campaign to the maximum publicity.

If you have already signed up, now is the time to approach your family members, relatives and the friends whom you care and love.

We know the campaign is already a success based on the goodness of God and your participation. God will surely touch our hearts and spark the transformation in our spiritual life as we live to seek a Purpose Driven Life.

Seven Secrets of Stress Management by Rick Warren

Then Jesus said, "Let's get away from the crowds for a while and rest." There were so many people coming and going that Jesus and his apostles didn't even have time to eat. Mark 6:31 (NLT)

Jesus experienced enormous stress and pressure, yet it didn't seem to disturb his peace of mind. In spite of opposition, constant demands, and little privacy, his life reflected a calm sense of balance.

What was his secret?

Identification - Know who you are (John 8:12)
Eighteen times Jesus publicly defined himself. There was no doubt in his mind as to who he was. If you are unsure of your identity, you'll allow others to pressure you into their molds. Trying to be someone you're not causes stress!

Dedication - Know who you want (John 5:30)
You can't please everyone. Even God can't! Just about the time you get "Crowd A" happy, then "Crowd B" will be upset with you. Jesus never let the fear of rejection manipulate him. No one can pressure you without your permission.

Organization - Set clear goals (John 8:14)
Jesus said, "I know where I came from and where I am going." (NIV) Preparation prevents pressure, but procrastination produces it. You work by either priorities or pressures.

Concentration - Focus on one thing at a time (Luke 4:42-44)
You can't chase two rabbits at the same time! Jesus knew how to handle interruptions without being distracted from his primary goal.

Delegation - Don't try to do everything yourself (Mark 3:14)
We get tense when we feel it all depends on us. Jesus enlisted twelve disciples. Don't allow perfectionism, or the fear that others may do a better job, to keep you from involving others in the task.

Meditation - Make a habit of prayer (Mark 1:35)
No matter how busy Jesus got, he found time to get alone to pray everyday. A daily quiet time is a great stress decompression chamber. Use this time to talk to God about your pressures and problems, evaluate your priorities, and discover the rules for successful living by reading the Bible.

Relaxation - Take time to enjoy life (Mark 6:30-31)
Balance is the key to stress management. Work must be balanced with fun and worship.

Finally our very own 40 DOP event logo!

A big thank you to our faithful church brother William Law who blessed us with the conceptual design. The final artwork was done by a gifted designer, Ivan of Liang Hua Printing Sdn Bhd.

The choice of this event logo reflects the core intention of our campaign. The heart surrounding "40" shows that we are singular and united, embracing the campaign with full commitment. The colour red represents warmth and vitality. Next to the heart is the Cross, which represents Christ and His support for us throughout the campaign. The colour gray represents stability and trustworthiness.

The 40 DOP campaign momentum has began! Following the official announcement by Vivien Lim last Sunday, Rev Law has emailed to all congregation regarding the April 28 briefing.

"Dear brothers and sisters of GMC,

To those who are worshipping in GMC, I pray that you will not miss the appointment stated above.

The 40 days of Purpose Driven Life is the only project of outreach this year. I have read the book, The Purpose Driven Life by the servant of God, Rick Warren. I am convinced that anybody on earth who read this book cannot help but find the reason(s) to live on earth. After reading it, I just feel anybody who is honest with himself/herself, will agree to the purposes spelled for us, as humans.

I pray you will give it a top priority to come for the briefing so that you know what you are supposed to do with the book during the 40 days (June 28 - Aug 10). It is a chance of reading a life transformation book together with others and at the end of the day, you will really find the purposes of your life. How I wish this project has been launched earlier as I feel it can impact so many lives for Jesus."

My church Grace Methodist is excited to host a spiritual journey of discovery called 40 Days of Purpose. So what is 40 days of purpose? Quite simply it is a spiritual rejuvenation for church members, backsliders and even for people who want to seek the answer to the very fundamental question, "What on earth am I here for?"

The 40 days of purpose will be a powerful life-changing journey for you and me. It has established a track record of changing thousands of lives and churches since 2002. You and I will be encouraged to participate in deepening our relationship with God through worship, small groups studies and through daily readings.

Knowing God's purpose for creating us makes all the difference. Our stress will be reduced and our lives will be simpler by focusing on the things that matter most.

I pray you will make the commitment for 40 days and get ready to discover your purpose for being here at this time and place.
